Will 12th August 2017 be a “No Night Date”? Perseid Meteor Shower to Lighten up the Sky on 11-12th Eve

10 August, Deepanshi |Annual celestial event, Perseid Meteor Shower is all set to take place in the month of August. A meteor shower is a yearly event, but Perseid Meteor Shower 2017 is said to be a more exciting experience even by its usual standards. According to a story, which now has gone insanely viral, claims 12th August 2017 date to have no night. The theory given by Astronomy-Physics.com states that the sky will be lit by the presence of bright moonlight along with Perseids, giving it an illusion of daylight.

The report says the 2017 Perseid Meteor Shower to be the brightest recorded meteor showers in the history. This theory though has been squashed by NASA report which informs that the Perseid Meteor Shower will be less effective due to the sky being covered with the three-quarters full moon. Bill Cooke, the NASA Scientist, told Space.com. “Instead of 80 to 100, [there will be] 40 to 50 per hour. And that’s just because the moon’s going to wash out the fainter ones,” he added. Perseids or bright moonlight, save the date, August 12, 2017, for it may be too glowed to have a night.

Solar Eclipse 2017 Date and Time: Where and How to Watch the Total Solar Eclipse in Canada and US.Perseids, made of tiny space debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle are one of the most prolific meteor showers occurring annually. The outstanding cosmic event is caused by streams of cosmic debris called meteoroids entering Earth’s atmosphere at extremely high speeds on parallel trajectories. Every year, the shower is visible from mid-July with the peak in activity from August 9-14, depending on the particular location of the stream.

According to the theory published, “There is going to be a meteor shower on 12th of August, 2017. According to astronomers, this will be the brightest shower in the recorded human history. It will light up the night sky, and some of these [sic] might even be visible during the day. This meteor shower is being considered as once [sic] in a lifetime opportunity as the next meteor shower of such kind will be after 96 years.”
